Ranger, TX-Ranger College announced today the groundbreaking of a new rodeo arena, signaling the college’s commitment to expanding opportunities for students and the local community.
The new Rodeo Arena will provide a dedicated space for Ranger College’s successful rodeo team to practice and host events. The college rodeo team has a long history of success, with a 2007 national championship title and many students moving on to compete at professional levels. The new arena will allow the team to host larger rodeos and recruit even more top student-athletes.
“This new arena demonstrates Ranger College’s commitment to supporting our students’ success and passion for rodeo,” said Derrick Worrels, Ranger College President. “Rodeo is an important part of the cultural heritage of our region, and this arena will allow us to celebrate that for generations to come."
The arena will also provide opportunities for local 4-H clubs, FFA groups, and community organizations to host events. The arena will be open for public rental when not in use for college or student events.
“We aim for this arena to become a centerpiece of our community,” said Llew Rust, Ranger College Rodeo Coach. “Whether students want to compete, practice their skills, or just enjoy watching an event, this new arena will have something for everyone.
The new arena will include seating for spectators, announcer’s stands, bucking chutes, and other facilities to support rodeo events. Funding comes from a combination of institutional funds and a private donor.
Groundbreaking for the new arena took place on June 22, 2023. Construction is projected to be complete this year, with a grand opening celebration to follow.
