Dependents’ and Survivors’ Educational Assistance (Chapter 35)
Chapter 35 provides education benefits to eligible dependents and survivors of veterans.
What the Benefit Covers
- Monthly education benefit payments
- Can be used for tuition, fees, and other education-related expenses
- Eligible for degree programs, certificates, and training
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a spouse or dependent of a qualifying veteran
- Veteran must be permanently disabled due to a service-related condition, missing in
action, or deceased from service-related causes
- Must meet VA eligibility guidelines
How to Apply
First-Time Users:
Apply online at https://www.va.gov/education/ and complete VA Form 22-5490 (Application for Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance) to receive your Certificate or Letter of Eligibility.
Returning Users:
If you have previously used VA education benefits, complete VA Form 22-1995 (Change of Program or Place of Training) at https://www.va.gov/education/ to receive an updated Certificate of Eligibility.
Required Documents
Submit the following items to the Ranger College Financial Aid Office:
- Certificate of Eligibility
- Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges or universities
- VA Request for Certification Form
- VA Degree Plan
Degree plans are completed by your Ranger College advisor.
